(March 16, 2023) Morgan James is a singer who has been lauded around the world for her fearless approach to her work, covering many genres and styles over the years. But to a lot of soul music fans, she has been a gem hidden in plain sight.
That should end with Morgan’s upcoming album Nobody’s Fool, a 90s-style R&B album on which she demonstrates (again) her brilliance as a song stylist who seems to be able to make just about anything her own. Recorded in Memphis, Nobody’s Fool bears the full-bodied production for which that musical city is known, and it works great behind Morgan’s expressive vocal performances.
One of the most notable cuts on the album is “Nobody’s Fool But Mine,” a smoky ballad about a woman who is in love and doesn’t care what her friends think of her man. While the cut smolders for the first two minutes, it ultimately lets the singer let loose, delivering a performance that is a bluesy as it is soulful.
The associated music video is just as compelling. In a single-shot, one-take 1990s throwback, Morgan falls in love with a photographer, played by Ephraim Sykes (Room, Ain’t Too Proud), and their careers blossom alongside each other over five years, in spite of outside perceptions. Directed by theatre and opera veteran Kevin Newbury, the video brings the effortless cool of the 90s art world together with a heightened theatricality to capture the timeline of a relationship.
We’re proud to present the World Premiere of the music video for “Nobody’s Fool But Mine.” Check it out below. It is just a taste of the goodness of Nobody’s Fool.
