They are two favorite artists of SoulTrackers, and we always want to hear more from them. Both Anthony David and Algebra Blessett are past SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards winners, and her debut album, Purpose, remains one of the most popular albums ever with our readers.
They were already accomplished artists separately, but when they combined to record “4 Evermore,” the two ATL singers created an all-time wedding classic that shot to the top of the charts. It’s tough to believe it was all the way back in 2010 that they graced us with that duet. While fans yearned for more, it was another dozen years before Anthony and Algebra returned with a couple new recordings that satisfied their hungry fans.
“Heaven” was a top ten hit for BeBe and CeCe Winans in 1988, and, as Algebra says, a “feel good classic we grew up on.” So Anthony and Algebra decided that a cover of “Heaven” would be the right vehicle for a musical reunion in 2022. They stripped down the original arrangement to a more acoustic sound fronted by AD’s guitar, and delivered a sensitive reading that accentuated the meaningful lyrics.
It was great to hear these two favorites singing together again. And we’re proud to make “Heaven” our SoulTracks Sunday Gem.
