A new mega record store springs up in Brooklyn…really

So when was the last time you saw a new record store open?  How about a giant 15,000 square foot record store? Well, that’s just what is happening in Brooklyn, according to a new story in Billboard magazine.

Rough Trade, a legendary London music retailer, is taking the plunge by opening a new U.S. flagship store in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood on November 25. The store will sell music in CD, vinyl and other formats, and will also have regular live performances.  Rough Trade’s gamble defies what is happening in the physical store world, where sales are down by over 1/3 over the past few years, and especially mega-stores, where sales have dropped by over half.  But we’re hoping that they have the formula for success, one that can help the music store world throughout the U.S.
