(February 14, 2021) Among the R&B stars of the past four decades, Janet Jackson’s place is right at the top. She has remained a consistent force in popular music, with scores of top albums and hits. And her string at the top really began in earnest 35 years ago this month, when she wowed the music world with the album Control.
Her third studio album, Control was released on Febraury 4, 1986, and, working with songwriters/producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jackson created a masterpiece: a fusion of R&B, dance and funk that helped open the world to the New Jack Swing style.
Featuring the charttopping hits, “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” “When I Think Of You,” “Let’s Wait Awhile,” “Nasty” and the title track, Control became the beginning of Janet’s Imperial Period as one of the most popular music artists in the world.
Now, 35 years later, Control is back in the news and back o nteh top of the Apple Pop Album charts, a shocking development that attests to the lasting love of the project and the artist. And an overwhelmed Miss Jackson thanked her fans on Twitter.
Congratulations to an artist who deserves all the roses she gets.
