Pre-Destiny’s Child cuts released from the vaults this week

(December 1, 2019) Music empresario and Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, is continuing to dig through the crates, and this week will be releasing Destiny’s Child: The Untold Story, an album of performances by Girls Tyme, the predecessor group to Destiny’s Child, featuring a very young Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland.

Girls Tyme was formed in 1990, with Beyoncé and Kelly joined by LaTavia Roberson, Nikki and Nina Taylor and Tamar Davis. They auditioned for Star Search but lost, and the group was then trimmed to a quartet, with LeToya Luckett replacing Davis and the Taylor sisters.

The foursome landed strong gigs as a warmup act for other R&B stars and did some limited recording, with little commercial success. They also changed their moniker several times, to names like Something Fresh and The Dolls, before ultimately landing on Destiny’s Child and signing to Columbia Records for what would become an historic run.

The Untold Story will feature both reissued and never before released music. Here is the track list:
