Donna Summer and Quincy Jones to enter Rock Hall of Fame

(December 11, 2012) The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today announced its 2013 class, to be inducted on April 18 at Los Angeles’s Nokia Theater.  The inductees include Canadian rock band Rush, rock and roll sisters Heart, singer-songwriter Randy Newman, rap group Public Enemy, the late queen of dance music, Donna Summer, and blues guitarist Albert King.

In addition, legendary music producer and label executive Quincy Jones will be one of two winners of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, an award given to non-performers.

The award is especially bittersweet for Summer, who died in May of this year and whose musical prowess wasn’t always appreciated by critics. Her legacy has grown over time and she is just now receiving the recognition for her pioneering work that she deserved. The Quincy Jones award is a “no brainer,” as Jones is undoubtedly one of the most important music producers of all time, a man who has worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson, and who is still vital as he approaches age 80.

Here is a video of a great collaboration by two of the inductees: Donna Summer’s “Love Is In Control,” produced by Quincy Jones.
