(February 25, 2020) Put together three heavyweights of Madrid’s funk/soul scene with a penchant for vintage grooves and old school flavors and you get Beat Bronco Organ Trio, a tight soul-jazz outfit formed in 2018 and honed on stages throughout Spain and beyond. Composed of Hammond organ, guitar and drums, the trio is heavily indebted to the sounds of such greats as Jimmy McGriff and lovingly preserves the revered tradition of Hammond grooves. Their first release, a double-sider 45 that showcased two original compositions, came out in 2019 on independent imprint Rocafort Records and was strongly supported by the funk & soul community, having since gone sold-out.
SoulTracks is pleased to present the World Premiere of Beat Bronco Organ Trio’s debut album Road Trip coming out this Friday on LP and Digital (Rocafort Records). The full-length was anticipated by the only vocal cut, a cover of Dave Bartholomew’s proto-funk track “Hey Hey” that the Spanish band turned into an R&B/mod burner with the help of singer Alberto Palcios Arnaut. All the other tunes are original compositions written by the group and cover all the bases one would expect from such a formation: midtempo soul lounger, funky hip-shakers, 60s soul-jazz workouts, and wah wah for days. Add Chip Wickham who makes an appearance on flute on two tracks, and you have yourself a tasty set indeed. Enjoy the exclusive stream below.
