After a run in the 1970s as The Moments (“Love On A Two Way Street”), the 1980s brought even bigger fame to the talented trio Ray, Goodman & Brown, with big hits like “Special Lady,” “Happy Anniversary” and “Take It To The Limit.” They were coming to the end of their 80s run when they issued 1988’s Mood For Lovin’, but that didn’t mean they were out of solid music.
The album, executive produced by Beau Huggins, was a nice collection of upbeat numbers and harmonic ballads, many of which featured touring vocalist Greg Willis working with the trio. Unfortunately, the album came and went quickly without making a serious chart dent. But, happily, Hush/Orpheus, which brought us many of the biggest stars of the 80s such as Freddie Jackson, Meli’sa Morgan, has just reissued this long lost disc, and it is a welcome return.
One of the song that particularly struck us was a sweet duet featuring Billy Brown and former Labelle member Sarah Dash. With a production style that is very 1988, “Don’t Make Me Wait” displays real chemistry and a sweet, sexy sound that still sounds good more than three decades later. Check it out below, and also check out the Spotify player with the full album. Welcome back Ray, Goodman & Brown!
