SoulTracks Lost Gem: Johnny Gill goes “Deeper” on rare cut

johnnygill

Johnny Gill and Mike Tyson? Almost. Read on…..In the 90’s Ex-Heavyweight Boxing Champion Mike Tyson had 2 managers- John Kennedy Horne & Rory Holloway. A series of post prison release deals (in conjunction with boxing promoter Don King) from which John Kennedy Horne alone reportedly pocketed 21 million dollars set the stage for the Horne-produced independent movie Unconditional Love (1999).

Released in limited markets, and with an accompanying soundtrack album dominated by local independent talent, it also features as the primary love theme the song “Deeper” written and produced by SoulTracks favorite Johnny Gill, with the assistance of brother Randy Gill (of R&B band II D Extreme) & Derek Russell. Truly a SoulTracks Lost Gem, and one of Johnny’s most blistering performances. Let us know if you agree!
