(January 14, 2018) Former Blackstreet vocalist Lenny Harold is stepping away from the shadows of his “No Diggity” crooning to put out more solo work. His latest single, taken from his recently-released LP Cosmic, may be his proudest moment yet. On “More,” the New Jersey singer teases the ear with orgasmic falsetto as it encircles a midtempo radio-ready groove blessed with sleek piano trills and a contemporary R&B gloss reminiscent of a Donell Jones getaway.
Inside the lyrics, Harold promises to be the ultimate dreamlover to an already taken honey. “I’m the man you wished he’d be, baby,” he proposes halfway into the presentation. Produced by Mandobeats (Busta Rhymes, Cam’ron), “More” echoes some of Blackstreet’s urban glow, but does a satisfying job in highlighting the smooth textures of Harold’s upper register, especially on the verses.
Although the song never finishes with the vehement Teddy Pendergrass climax it so richly deserves, Harold stays in his lane, preferring to stay cool while playing with his Ne-Yo-centric background. Overall, it’s a big win for the young talent.
