(May 5, 2023) It is every parent’s nightmare, and sadly it was the reality for music star Will Downing. The tragic passing of his daughter Aron to suicide in January of this year shook the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award winner as well as all of us who know him.
As both a grieving father and a good man, Downing wanted to use his gifts to help others who may be struggling with mental health. The result is the new song, “Till We Meet Again.” The very personal composition is both a parental expression of exasperation (“I wish that you could tell me what the hell was on your mind”) and one of hopeful resignation (“You know that we love you but God’s gonna hug you”). But most of all, it is a message of hope to those who may be suffering as his daughter did.
Will says, “I wanted to create a song that could provide comfort and support to anyone who is struggling with suicidal thoughts, and mental health challenges, and to remind them that they are not alone. It’s important that we break the stigma around mental health and suicide and encourage people to seek help when they need it.”
“Till We Meet Again” is certainly interesting musically. But it is a powerful message that we hope will provide both healing and hope to those who need that the most.
