(April 10, 2020) From a household consumed with music as a child to an academic journey aimed at chasing her passion, Wellington Bullings was willing to wait awhile as she prepared herself to be a recording artist. The neo-soul singer/musician/songwriter introduced her songbook on a video series entitled One Mike One Take in a stripped-down setting of voice and piano with “Because I Want To” and “Kiss Me Before the Rain Does.”
Bullings’ extensive musicality was also noted on a Soundcloud track covering rocker Chris Cornell’s “Seasons.” When not instructing other students on the healthier points of fashioning music, or performing live in the Denver, Colorado area, the Cornish College and Berklee School of Music graduate mixes an impressive artistic recipe of soul, pop and Afro/Cuban, fueled by an affection for jazz chanteuse Billie Holliday.
Get ready to experience the refreshing urban sounds of Bullings on her First Listen debut, flexing her engaging, enchanting soul voice for an upbeat take of “Because I Want To,” the title track from her upcoming debut E.P. The free-flowing organic samba arrangement sets the perfect tone for this track about embracing confidence. Equally contagious are Bullings’ lead and backing vocals, which are accompanied by sparkling keys, bass guitar and soft Latin rhythms. After all those years of Bullings shaping her artistry, “Because I Want To” launches a solid recording career. We’re looking forward to hearing more.
