It is safe to say that when I woke up this morning, one of the last things I would have expected to start my day was a music video by former Village People lead singer Victor Willis (he was the policeman), featuring Head of the Class actress and former Mrs. Mike Tyson, Robin Givens.
We hadn’t seen Willis perform since he was…ahem…still in uniform, but despite the often comical surroundings of his Village People days, he was always a solid singer with a big voice. And he is back with a new album called Solo Man, using material largely from 1979 but apparently (at least in part) recorded recently.
The first single and video from Solo Man is the ballad, “Follow Through,” and Willis celebrates its release with a music video that alternates between a stage performance by him and various shots of a lingerie-clad Givens – who still looks great, by the way – reading a letter, taking a bath, etc. It all ends with the two of them happily walking the beach, though mostly separately.
While I would have loved a video with even more 70s/80s immersion (maybe guest appearances from Kotter actors or, better yet, Bernadette Stanis), I still smiled seeing this return of two familiar stars from the past.
So check out the “Follow Through” video below and tell us what you think.
