World Premiere: Valerie Ghent has us “Feelin’ Alright” with new single

(April 13, 2018) “Feelin’ Alright” is a fun and funky take on the decidedly downbeat topic of unrequited love. That’s what songwriter Dave Mason said the song was about. The fun factor probably explains why so many artists, and especially soul and R&B artists, have taken a crack at the tune. It also explains the tune’s constant presence on the screen in movies, TV shows and commercials. Joe Cocker probably has the most famous version, but “Feelin’ Alright” has also been covered by Isaac Hayes, the Bar Kays, the Jackson Five and Gladys Knight and the Pips, just to name a few.

Valerie Ghent contributes her power packed vocals to a latest rendition of Mason’s classic. Her version features some of the classic soul/gospel elements (including those churchy backing vocals) heard in Cocker’s version. The horns on Ghent’s interpretation give the track a bit of a jazzy swing that works quite well. Check it out here.
