(January 17, 2024) I’m going to give “This Life With You,” the new song from SoulTracks fave Teri Tobin, what could be considered the highest praise that you can give a love song. I could easily imagine this song being played at the reception as the very first dance of a newly married couple.

Tobin’s duet with Al Chauncy has all the lyrical elements that you expect to hear in a tune that will draw couples to the dance floor to share three minutes of romantic bliss. Tobin handles the verses on this song, and she sings sweetly about why choosing to go through life with this person seems as natural a choice a breathing. Tobin notes that he is a man who makes her feel safe and secure by not only protecting and providing for her material needs, but by nurturing her spirit.

Chauncy strong voice adds an element of church-inspired soul to the hook. His words serve as a melodic assent to what Tobin expresses in the verses: “I been there for you, baby baby/You been there for me.” Tobin joins in on the second part of the hook singing, “Can’t nobody else love me like you do/Spending this life/This life for you.”

The arrangement has a mellow and mid-tempo stepper’s vibe, led by a gently bouncy and funky bass line. Perhaps “This Life With You” will gain enough traction to become an addition to wedding day playlists by the summer. However, there’s nothing to prevent couple from generating spark by engaging in some couples dancing on a cold winter night, dropping the virtual needle on this joint. Check it out here.
