(April 9, 2019) – Longtime SoulTrackers know that we’ve been following the stellar career of LA-based singer and songwriter Sy Smith for awhile now. She’s the hardest working woman in show business and has delivered a string of fun, always thoughtful albums over more than 15 years. But even her strong output over the years didn’t prepare us for last year’s breakout release Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete, Sy’s most personal album and one of our undoubted faves of 2018.
And for those who loved the music of Concrete as much as we did, Sy has just released Sometimes A Rose Will Get A Remix, a new disc of remixes that take the album in intriguing directions. There are a cappella versions of each song, a dancehall remix of “Perspective,” a new duet with B.Slade, and a deep house mix of the title track, among others.
For our latest SoulTracks First Listen, we’ll take a look at the reggae-influence remix of “Camelot” (a former SoulTracks Song of the Month), a Caribbean-flavored take on the number that sounds just right as the weather is heating up in the Midwest.
