(April 3, 2017) Sulpacio Jones admitted during a recent interview with United Kingdom based radio personality DJ Bigger that the tight playlists of modern radio create a wall of resistance to efforts that  indie artists such as herself find nearly impossible to breach. Jones told DJ Bigger that she’s pretty much sworn off terrestrial radio, and in making that choice she has a lot of company.

The good news for artists such as Jones, who released her highly regarded album Live Love Fly High in 2015, is that there are so many ways for fans to hear independent artists, and Jones has taken advantage of one of those entry points with the release of her new single “Better Way.” Fans of the TV show “Rebel,” the John Singleton/Amani Walker police drama that aired March 28 on BET, heard the song. It’s not surprising that black filmmakers who have fought their own battles with the powers that be in order to bring their visions to screens in homes and multiplexes across America would have an affinity for and make common cause with indie music artists such as Jones.

Adding “Better Way” to the soundtrack of a series that tells the story of a by-the-book police officer who throws the book away after her brother is killed in a police shooting. If you missed the show, give “Better Way” a listen, and if you saw it listen and get a better idea of who is the voice behind the message.
