(November 20, 2019) They burst onto the Canadian music scene four years ago, and now The Soul Motivators are returning with their brand of authentic, deep funk and soul, via their album Do The Damn Thing. With lead vocalist Shahi Teruko and a rhythm section to die for, TSM should be making some big waves south of the border for this new disc.
The first single from the album, “Modern Superwoman,” has a classic soul sound brought up to date, Teruko sings it like her life depends on it, and the band (Marc Shapiro on Bass, Voltaire Ramos on Guitar, Doug Melville on Drums, James Robinson on Keyboards, and Derek Thorne on Percussion) consistently on point. Lovers of 70s soul will immediately grab onto this one and will want to hear all of the new album with the funny name.
“Do the damn thing! is a phrase we used during rehearsals to get us back on track when we started to over complicate things. Is it funky? Is it soulful? Then just do the damn thing!”
Well, we’re glad that they’re doing their damn thing, and we think SoulTrackers are going to dig this song. Check it the World Premiere of “Modern Superwoman” and tell us what you think!
