January 28, 2018 – I’m beginning to wonder if there’s something special in the tap water in England.
Somehow, year after year, that relatively modest-sized country manages to produce a new and remarkable blue-eyed soul singer who stops me in my tracks. From Stevie Winwood and Dusty Springfield in the Sixties to more recently Sam Smith and Adele, England’s produced an impressive historical array of unforgettable British pipes. And now we have a new potential entrant into that pantheon, Marcus Foster, who performs under the stage name Seramic.
Seramic got his start as a folk artist in 2011 but pivoted in 2016 to R&B/soul on his EP Found. He returned last year with the EP I Got You, an even deeper dive into soul music, and the results are warm and authentic. We feature here the EP’s closer, “Trying,” a beautiful piano-anchored ballad that showcases the many compelling textures of Seramic’s voice. Enjoy.
