First Listen: Nick Pride & The Pimptones get the “Lady” just right

SoulTrackers may be familiar with the hot sound of Nick Pride & The Pimptones, a group that delivers a combination of funky grooves, beefy breaks and blue eyed soul music. Their slick arrangements have all the harmonic sophistication that the jazz cats love, delivered with a heavyweight punch that keeps the dance floor moving.

Last year, the band has flipped the script by taking on a full time singer, soul siren Beth Macari. Having first made a guest appearance with the group on their 2014 LP Rejuiced Phat Shake, Beth’s supercharged R&B vocal style is the perfect match for the Pimps’ deep funk sound.

The band is releasing a new album called Go Deep, and their sounds are hotter than ever. That goes doubly for the first single, “Gotta Leave That Lady Alone,” with their hot horn sounds and scorching percussion backing Beth’s powerful up front vocals. If you notice anything special about the cut, is its immediacy. Nick tells us, “We often record with guest musicians added to the mix, but these two tracks didn’t need any extras, just the sound of the live band. It’s all about the songs, the arrangement and the energy”.

Check out this fun and funky single and get to know The Pimptones.
