(July 2, 2020) Pianist Michael Silverman may be one of the most popular musicians that you may – or may not have – heard of. He’s definitely among the busiest. His music has been heard on television shows and he’s one of the world’s most streamed and downloaded artists. His has more than 6 billion streams on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon. Silverman and his brother Rob Silverman founded Autumn Hill Records in 2007 and that label streams over 3 million songs daily in a variety of instrumental styles ranging from new age to classical.
Those instrumental chops explain why keyboardist Jeff Lorber wanted to collaborate with Silverman, who quickly agreed to work with one of the leading figures in the fusion movement. The two have collaborated on an album, titled Human Spirit, that will drop on July 15. Silverman invited some high-powered talent to join him on Human Spirit, including his brother, drummer and percussion Rob Silverman.
The first track from the upcoming album, “Keys To the City,” premieres on SoulTracks. Fans of 1970s and 80s era jazz fusion are going to like this one. “Keys To the City” sports a funky bass and some soulful work on the keys. However, there is plenty of improvisation for jazz fans to latch onto. Check “Keys To the City” out here.
