First Listen: Funk legend Marlon McClain is “Funkin” again

(June 12, 2021) Move over, Uptown Funk! Former Pleasure bandmate, Dazz Band guitarist and established R&B songwriter Marlon “The Magician” McClain is giving us a slice of Downtown funk with his newest single.

Produced by Ralph Stacy (Johnny Gill, Dru Hill), “Funkin Cause We Wanna” is airbrushed with Rufus & Chaka Khan vibes (a la “Do You Love What You Feel”) and plays like a gloriously retro summer jam perfect for the grown folks’ cookout playlist. With the light falsetto vocals sprinkled across the zesty chorus like a Cameo/ConFunkShun showcase, it’s hard to resist the grooves inside this timely earworm.

SoulTrackers, take a listen and let us know if you’re funkin’ with it.
