Kevin Garrett is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter and pianist with a striking falsetto and a certain way with a tender ballad. He released his debut EP, Mellow Drama, earlier this year and counts as fans fellow blue-eyed soulster Sam Smith, among other notables. He is at work now on his first full-length album and recently released this single, “Refuse.” Spotify places him in the “contemporary R&B” category, and his rhythms do lean in that direction, but what sets Kevin apart is the soul in his vocals. Fans of Abiah, Smith, and other singers with a smooth, expressive upper range should give him a listen. Enjoy.
