First Listen: Soul vet Keni Stevens wonders “If Lovin You Is All I Have”

(May 19, 2017) — Considering twenty-eight years in between solo recorded projects is a major gap, singer/songwriter Keni Stevens’ warm baritone sounds just as fresh as the day he started wowing audiences in his native U.K.   With eclectic influences such as Otis Redding, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, Stevens launched his recording career in 1985 with the Brit-Soul classic, Blue Moods, featuring his most prolific single, “Cannot Live Without Your Love.” Stevens released two more albums that captured his articulate soulful expressions of love and life before taking an extended hiatus from the studio.  Despite a long drought without his own project, Stevens has kept his musical feet wet in the studio as a session vocalist including “Just Groovin’” with Soul Basement, and as a background voice for Drizabone Soul Family.

The follow-up to Stevens’ last single earlier in 2017, “One Way Ticket to Love,” is “If Lovin You Is All I Have,” a solid testament in his dedication to warm soulful stories, dished out with a very funky bass and expressive saxophone by Rico Garofalo.  While musical trends come and go, Stevens’ Brit-Soul stamp from way back remains intact without any artistic compromise.  Check it out below.
