First Listen: Johnny Gill finds the Woman’s “Soul” in new single

(February 15, 2019) For many of us, Johnny Gill has always been part of our playlist. From the time he arrived 35 years ago, a skinny teenage kid with a big voice singing “Super Love,” to his entry into supergroup New Edition, to his Babyface and Jam/Lewis-fueled smash solo career, he has proven himself to be an artist with staying power. He proved that again three years ago with his surprise hit album, Game Changer, and the number one hit “This One’s For Me And You.” And he’s getting strong reviews on his current tour with fellow NE alum Ralph Tresvant.

Now Johnny is back with new music that continues the adult soul groove of Game Changer. “Soul of A Woman” is a light midtempo that puts that notable baritone voice front and center, with a cool rhythm section and a continuing call-and-response with the male background singers. It shares the same vibe as “This One’s For Me And You,” and is just as enticing.

It’s great to hear the 52 year old Johnny Gill still relevant and still doing his thing. Check out “Soul of a Woman” below and tell us what you think!
