(May 22, 2023) I’ve known Joe Leavy for many years thanks to our connection in the world of Soul (artist to journalist) and his music rarely disappoints. The San Diego native and SoulTracks Awards nominee (Song Of The Year, Male Vocalist Of The Year) scored two #1 hits on the UK Soul Charts with “Love Me 2 My Soul” and “Inside of You”.
Joe’s latest single, “Do It Again”, joins the ranks of his prior works as a potential chart topper as well as a sweet, warm slice of jazzy soul. The mid tempo groove is anchored by solid guitar and bass work, keyboards and accented with on-point backing vocals. Leavy’s mid-range tenor soars above the track as he praises his lover for the sweet love that he can’t get enough of.
But let’s talk about the flautist here on “Do It Again,” Althea Rene. Her sweet melodic flute weaves in and out of the melody like a butterfly floating in the air. The lovely countermelody from Ms. Rene compliments Joe’s vocals and the rhythm track quite nicely.
