Jazmine Sullivan’s Reality Show may be one of the most anticipated R&B albums of the year, especially following the releases of “Dumb,” the satirical slap-down of “Mascara,” and the rhapsodic soul of “Forever Don’t Last Always.” Singer-songwriter Jazmine Sullivan as a lyricist goes super deep on a project heavy on social commentary, true-to-life characters told from the first-person POV, and serious themes. It’s modern, edgy, biting in its observations (those sensitive to expletives may have more than a few issues with this project), and still manages to be soulful and technically flawless singing. Similar to Marcell & The Truth’s Symbols, which used a similar lone TV as its album cover, the album lives up to its title.
An album that is rich with catchy melodies, top notch vocals, and actually has something to say? It’s a “yes” for me, but give the whole album a preview listen and decide for yourself. Are you tuning in to this Reality Show?
