Ibeyi is a new musical duo consisting of twin sisters, Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz. Daughters of famed Cuban percussionist Anga Diaz, the sisters grew up in Paris and Havana and released their debut album, Ibeyi, earlier this year. Their soulful vocals wrap around an interesting mélange of Afro-Cuban, hip hop, French and jazz influences.
Featured here live performing their album track “Mama Says,” the twins show us why they were the talk of South by Southwest and other festivals this year. Fans of Erykah Badu, Lauren Hill, FKA Twigs, and other rhythmic soul artists with lyrical depth should like what they hear.
