First Look: Gregory Porter asks if “Love Is Overrated”

gregoryporter-2020sitting

(February 14, 2020) SoulTrackers know how much we love Gregory Porter. We wait anxiously for everything he releases, and we are on pins and needles as we anticipate his upcoming album, All Rise.

The title cut hit us a few weeks ago and it is all that. And today, Gregory issues the stylish video for another song from the album, the beautiful “If Love Is Overrated.”

He tells us, “‘If Love Is Overrated’ is a love song to love, in a pessimistic environment. It is the energy that excites the heart and the head without this love being announced to the world… a secret admiration even.”

The ballad tells the relatable story of a man who is willing to stretch himself and reach for love – though he knows the risks. And on the single, Gregory is accompanied by his trusted band featuring pianist Chip Crawford, bassist Jahmal Nichols, drummer Emanuel Harrold, and saxophonist Tivon Pennicott, plus a string arrangement by Troy Miller performed by the London Symphony Orchestra Strings.

This is yet another winner for Gregory Porter. Check out “If Love Is Overrated” below and tell us what you think.
