First Listen: Gino Vannelli returns to deliver acoustic holiday ballad

(December 21, 2020) One of the frequent questions we receive from SoulTrackers is “Whatever happened to Gino Vannelli“? The big haired, blue-eyed soul crooner had a string of hits in the late 70s and early 80s that scored big time in both pop and soul. “I Just Wanna Stop,” “Wheels of Life” and other smashes made Vannelli a household name.

Gino has continued to quietly record, issuing his most recent album, Wilderness Road, in 2019. And for the 2020 holiday season, he has issued a soft, acoustic number, with his familiar tenor voice purring in front of piano and guitar backing.

“How Sweet The Silence” feels more like the kind of soft rock number that Dan Fogelberg would have sung, rather than the R&B-laced music of Vannelli’s heyday, but it is a melodic, gentle number that fits the Christmas season. And it is good to hear this talented singer back again.

Check out “How Sweet The Silence,” and welcome Gino Vannelli back to SoulTracks.
