(June 11, 2025) NYC-raised, LA-based alt-R&B singer-songwriter Gianna Alessi is definitely one to watch. With training from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee School of Music and with years of experience working in New York’s music scene at Bowery Electric and Groove in the West Village, she officially teased us with fresh music in 2022 with “Lover for the Week” and is now finally forging ahead with a forthcoming debut EP Soft n’ Lush, expected to drop this fall.
On “Soft,” the classically raised singer drops her warm and supple vocals on the hypnotic ballad like a subdued Teena Marie. Parked at under three minutes in length, the mellow track — co-produced by Alessi with indie/pop producer Rich Emery — gets the job done, blessed with dreamy synths, glowing harmonies and smooth vibes that are so complimentary with the scenically tranquil sunsets on the beachside of Malibu. It almost feels like a sweet soulful prayer for the city of Angels, which has lately been marred with headlines of destructive wildfires and civil unrest.
With the anticipated EP on the horizon, we hope to hear more from the refreshing talent of Gianna Alessi. Maybe even a full-length album. It’s not too much to ask for.
In the meantime, check out “Soft” in our First Listen feature right here and let us know your thoughts.
