(June _, 2024) Close friends of SoulTracks, Frank McComb and DJ Spinna are pure music magicians who keep elevating their craft to endless heights. While McComb’s gentle soulful vocals and instrumental genius and DJ Spinna’s beat maker and production boldness have graced the industry for over three decades, this duo finally connects in the studio for “It’s Gonna Be Alright.”
Two particular recent First Listen moments in the last two years come to mind that demonstrate the duo’s distinctive skills in uplifting the urban music landscape. In 2024, McComb blended his silky swagger with the raspy voiced John P. Kee as part of Kee’s salute to gospel pioneer, Rance Allen with “Believe in Yourself.” And DJ Spinna’s 2023 spotlight pulled off a fresh, smooth house-injected perspective of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly.”
Back to our latest First Listen “It’s Gonna Be Alright.” McComb once again provides another shout out to the men, similar to the illustrations from his 2022 track, “Instead.” This mid-tempo uplifter empowers men to keep their head up through adversity: “Feel you’ve got no place in this world/Overlooked and feeling less than a man/Just do what you came here to do/Serve your purpose and then you stand.” And McComb and DJ Spinna’s two-man showcase demonstrates pure groove gold – powered by a jazz funk orchestra with brass, strings, complimentary rhythmic backdrop and a vocal choir that occasionally bends the harmonies in a few directions a la Take 6. Listen up to “It’s Gonna Be Alright” and hear two musicians express their passion for music and their fellow man.
