(October 9, 2022) We’ve been through quite a few years in this country. A pandemic, social strife, financial booms and busts, and seeming cracks in our foundation. How ordinary folks have found there way through the troubles has varied, but for many the strength to move forward has been found in their faith.
That’s what Motown Gospel singer Evvie McKinney is preaching on her dynamic new single, “Church.” McKinney has been a rising star ever since her 2020 debut single “Bring The Whole Hood,” and she isn’t afraid to testify about the driving force in her life and the cause of her joy. She told Billboard magazine, “While I try never to be surprised by what God does, I want to always remain in awe of him doing it.”
That gratitude and source of strength comes through big time in “Church,” a rousing, earworm of a song that is as fun as it is inviting:
When the world gets heavy
Starts to weigh me down.
When I get a little lost and I gotta go get found.
Ain’t nothing like a Sunday morning for my soul
Ain’t nowhere else I want to go
Take me to Church
McKinney and the choir sing their hearts out in what has to be one of the most infectiously joyous songs of the year. We simply can’t turn it off. Check out “Church” and welcome Evvie McKinney to SoulTracks.
