First Listen: Erin Stevenson keeps us “Hangin'”

(February 25, 2018) An aspiring musical artist is usually willing to risk their ‘day job’ in exchange of admiration and support of fans, once they possess the proper tools. While working her bread and butter job, singer/songwriter Erin Stevenson was prepped to make an exit to her career calling by handing her boss a demo CD, demonstrating her real loyalty to her artistry.  When all was said and done, the Houston, Texas native was relieved of day job obligations and many welcomed her with open arms, including the big breakthrough in touring with Janet Jackson and as part of Justin Timberlake’s Tennessee Kids backing ensemble.

Now poised for the solo spotlight, Stevenson debuts her full-length, Naked, which features predominantly electro dance funk propelled tracks, as demonstrated on her singles, “Hot Damn” and the title track.  Yet our First Listen spotlight “Hangin’” finds Stevenson in full voice on this bluesy ballad, produced and co-written by DeShawn Hendrickson (Keyshia Cole).  And she does not disappoint when expressing her angst about waiting for a relationship to develop: “Why are you teasing me/You know you’re not saying goodbye/I’ve been down pound for pound/ So you keep me around.”  With all this vocal and songwriting passion on tap, her fans and R&B lovers are thankful Stevenson kissed that ‘day job’ goodbye.
