(December 26, 2024) “Longing,” the new song by Houston based singer/songwriter Emani, tells the story of the aftermath of a breakup from the perspective of someone dealing with seller’s remorse. Her former bae has moved on and is moving forward with someone else on his arms. Emani expresses the view of someone left without a chair or a partner when the music stops, and she is felling some kind of way about that.
We, the listeners do not know why the breakup happened. Could have been something he did but the lyrics and the angst and regret heard in Emani’s delivery make it sound like it was more her than him.
The upbeat nature of the musical arrangement makes that song’s message of longing and regret hit even harder. “Longing” is the lead single from Emani’s forthcoming EP Auntie Energy, which is due spring 2025.
The accompanying video that Emani made to promote “Longing” is a funny and unsettling bit of storytelling. It shows a man who is living rent free inside the head of an ex who desperately wants to return the days when they shared an address. Check out “Longing” and the accompanying video here.
