First Listen: DetroitCentrix returns with “Ain’t No Wrong”

(September 17, 2024) Kathy Kosins and Paul Randolph, who together form the duo DetroitCentriX, engage in some fun romantic banter on their latest single, “Ain’t No Wrong.” “Ain’t No Wrong” is a song about two people testing trying to determine what they stand to gain – or lose – with whatever decision they make. One thing that this enjoyably funky jam makes clear is that whatever they do is cool – as long as they do it together.

Whether Kosins and Randolph are singing anthems that pay homage to their hometown of Detroit or playful and seductive numbers like “Ain’t No Wrong,” the two have musical chemistry. “Ain’t No Wrong” takes on a familiar scenario of a conversation between a woman who is a bit cautious about taking the next step into a relationship because of some negative past experiences and a man who assures her that this time will be different because he’s not them.

The banter between Kosins and Randolph sounds like two people negotiating the course that the rest of the night will take at last call. Kosins sings her lyrics about the back and forth going through her mind with in a conversational yet seductive coo. Randolph’s emotive baritone is also conversational, but with just a tinge of urgency.

The hook “Ain’t no wrong or right/no matter what we do tonight/as long as you hold me tight/ain’t no wrong/ain’t no right” is a way for Randolph to convince Kosins – and Kosins to convince herself – that it’s all gonna be OK.

“Ain’t No Wrong” is some great storytelling by two people who know how to tell a musical story. Check it out here.
