(June 3, 2025) “It’s Over,” the new song by Cornell C.C. Carter, is a slice of real life that details the consequences of a betrayal told from the standpoint of the person who was unfaithful.
The mournful ballad covers a story that has been told many times in song, poetry, and prose. However, Carter notes that the inspiration for this song comes from a situation that actually happened to a friend who paid a high price for being unfaithful to his wife. The man’s wife got possession of his phone where she found evidence of his unfaithfulness. She confronted him with packed bags and a request for the house keys as his children watched the sad scene unfold.
“It’s Over” tells the story of a man forced to deal with the consequences of his decision to cheat on his wife, and the realization of what he has lost. Carter brings a level of empathy to his performance. He walks in the shoes of a person who is not sympathetic, but he does so to show the pain that comes when people realize that they have made a mistake that can’t be corrected by saying “I’m sorry.” Check out Cornell C.C.
