First Listen: Cleveland P. Jones provides a powerful, melancholy “Holidays”

(November 27, 2020) We’ve been tracking the independent soul journey of talented singer and songwriter Cleveland P. Jones for awhile now. The former SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards New Artist of the Year has established a strong following among SoulTrackers for his unique tenor voice as well as the insightfulness of his songs about love and life.

For his latest single, Cleve gives a view of the holiday season that is far different than the typical Christmas carol. “Those Holidays Again” tells the first person story of a man who is mourning the love he lost, and how that absence affects every shining tree or carol he hears. Recalling the longing of classics like “Blue Christmas” or “Please Come Home For Christmas,” “Those Holidays Again” delivers a less specific, but perhaps more universal take on the melancholy felt by many during this time of year.

The song’s driving beat augments the immediacy of the lyrics, providing for a powerful backdrop for a message that goes down a path that will likely resonate with many listeners. And of course, Cleve’s expressive vocals bring the song home.

Check out “Those Holidays Again” and welcome Cleveland P. Jones back to SoulTracks.
