(October 9, 2018) Since the early eighties, the multi-award winning Winans family in all their collectives – quartet, duo and solo – have clearly impacted the urban and pop music landscape.  Carvin Winans and three of his brothers formed The Winans, who redefined the sound of gospel quartets. Carvin’s gifted songwriting skills were also in demand from soul superstars, including Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle, the latter of whom hit #1 with Carvin’s “Make It Like It Was.”

Yet, beyond  Carvin Winans’ countless accomplishments with his family and others over the past three decades, there is still one musical avenue in which he has yet to pursue – an opportunity for a solo recording platform,  With our latest First Listen spotlight, Carvin finally takes that step on his debut single, “Once In A Lifetime” (The Dance Factory/Thirty Tigers), a declaration of finding that special someone in the right way.  The production duo of The Jackie Boys (Boyz II Men, Charlie Wilson) deliver a simple, yet funky soundtrack with a catchy bass line that effectively captures some of those Winans performances that brought them to prominence on the R&B and gospel charts.

Staying true to his Christian faith, Carvin pulls out the scriptural text from Proverbs 18 to illustrate the key to “Once In A Lifetime”: “He who finds a good woman finds a good thing.” Now that Carvin has opened the door to his long time musical dream, we will await his upcoming full-length release in 2019.
