First Listen: Andy Stokes makes a loving “Promise”

andy_stokes

We’ve spent a lot of time in the past year talking about the great group of new, soulful artists hailing from Portland, Oregon. But soul music didn’t just start in Portland in this decade. Andy Stokes was bringing his gritty, soulful voice to Rip City as far back as the 80s, when he led the funk group Cool’R, and later took on the moniker as “Oregon’s King of Soul.”

The talented singer is now back with a brand new song that has a great adult soul feel to it. “Promise” sounds like the kind of love song that Charlie Wilson has been issuing as a solo performer. It has a strong message and Stokes absolutely nails it vocally.

We’re excited to present “Promise” as our newest SoulTracks First Listen. We think you’re going to enjoy this song.
