(August 25, 2024) Las Vegas-based vocalist Alli’ Starr has sung with the best in the business, from the legendary Barbra Streisand to soul veteran Phil Perry. While Alli’ has headlined in countries such as Japan, Korea and the UK, Nevada remains her home with her lovely twin children.
Her new single, “Why,” released via Expansion Records, is a mid-low tempo groove with a no-frills keyboard and drum programming backing her powerful vocals. Produced by Courtney Travis aka Tr8vis Krates, Alli’ sings about moving on from a relationship that is now in the past, and asking what is really “the reason why we got here.” On this grown folks story about what was good and what went wrong, Alli’ spells it out without drama or melisma. She keeps the vocals simple and sweet.
It would be great to hear more from Alli’ on her own without having to take the “50 feet from stardom” route that many singers have done. Looking forward to many more solid songs from Ms. Starr.
