(March 26, 2021) It’s been four years since popular 90s R&B vocal group After 7 made a triumphant return with Timeless, an excellent album that reconnected them with their adult soul audience and won for them two SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards.
Since then the group has experienced the heartache of the passing of former member Melvon Edmonds, but the current trio continued to perform right to the time of the pandemic.
Now, with their fans anxiously awaiting the release of the group’s long anticipated follow up album, Unfinished Business, After 7 has issued the first single, the slow grinder, “Bittersweet.”
A song full of the trio’s recognizable vocal interplay – and Kevin Edmonds’ bright tenor voice up front – “Bittersweet” has a more contemporary feel that music from its predecessor LP, even including hints of hip-hop syncopation, courtesy of producer JCash Beatz and songwriters Tradessa Willis and Trevon Trapper from the duo Shakespeare.
Kevon says about the song, “Bittersweet is a song that delves into our favorite subject of Love, Life and Relationshipsn. I am fairly certain that if you live life long enough you will learn that you can’t have the sunshine without the rain. That is exactly what ‘Bittersweet’ explores in most if not every relationship, the pain and pleasure that works hand and glove with people who love. This is where we get excited about delivering a song such as this because it allows us to put our storytelling skills to work.“
The song should connect with longtime fans of After 7, and get them excited about hearing more. Check out “Bittersweet” below, and welcome After 7 back to SoulTracks
