(January 20, 2021) SoulTrackers may know Adryon de León from her seven years singing with the highly regarded group Orgone, where she proved herself a vocal powerhouse. Now performing as a solo artist, Adryon has a lot to say, and she says it beautifully in her new single, “Ally.”
“Ally” has an upbeat old school groove but the message is pure 2021. Reflecting on riots that happened near her Long Beach home following the death of George Floyd, as well as the often awkward responses of friends, she penned the song to express both her frustrations and her hopes, and as call for listeners to stand up for what is right.
She tells us, “The process of recording ‘Ally’ was a cathartic and humbling one. It was time for me to stop being precious with the subject matter and contribute in the only way I knew how at the moment. I hope the tune serves as a reminder that the fight for justice is not over, in fact, this iteration has just begun. Everyone can be an ally to the disenfranchised, vulnerable, and overlooked.”
The accompanying video effectively intersperses photos from peaceful marches with live action performances by de León, and provides a nice visual for the song, and one for which we’re proud to present the World Premiere.
