We’ve been writing about him since the early days of SoulTracks. And when it comes to musical resumes, there aren’t many better than Chris Jasper. A Hall of Fame former member of The Isley Brothers, he wrote mountains of hits for that group before fashioning a great solo career. He is also a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards Lifetime Achievement winner, and he continues to win over fans with his combination of old school funk and tender ballads.
Chris is still riding high on the success of his recent album, Raise The Bar, and one of the cuts that radio has gravitated to is the socially conscious new single, “We Are The People (We Are The Nation).” It is a song that cuts through schisms in our nation to tell the plain truth of the goodness of the people, who share a love of family and a desire for a better life. Amidst the discordant clamoring of politicians and competing new outlets, a song that refocuses us on the essentials we have in common is one worth celebrating.
