Purple St. James is a popular DC-based singer who made a name for herself in R&B circles with two albums under the name YahZarah, Hear Me and the popular Black Star.
A graduate of North Carolina Central University , St. James earned a gig as a background vocalist for Neo-Soul leader Erykah Badu. Earlier this decade, St. James launched her solo career, playing small clubs and serving as a warm-up act for artists such as Rahsaan Patterson and Amel Larrieux.
Possessing a powerful, sensual voice, St. James’ solo work has been an interesting mix of soulful ballads and funky cuts that have shown her to be a young artist to watch.
