New York City singer Jenny Burton made quite an impression during her period in the spotlight. Born on November 18, 1957, Burton came of age in the late 70s and became known for her powerful and versatile voice, that could handle gospel, big ballad and dance numbers with aplomb.
In 1983, Burton’s career took off with the release of her debut album In Black and White. The album featured the hit single “Remember What You Like,” which climbed the charts and showcased her distinctive blend of soul, funk, and R&B.
Burton continued to release successful albums throughout the 1980s, landing the dance hits with “Bad Habits” in 1985 and “Strangers in a Strange World” (the latter of which appeared in the movie Beat Street).
Burton moved to the stage for a number of musical plays in the 90s, including Don’t Tell Mama, before turning her attention to Gospel music, which was the focus of her I Think On These Things album in 2007.
