July 02, 2024 — Welcome back to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which contains elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we feature the track “Makaveli” by Osé.
Osé is a Nigerian-born singer and songwriter who now resides in Toronto. She got her start at age 4 singing in church and includes Beyoncé, Brandy and Mary J. Blige among her primary influences. She characterizes her music, which seamlessly blends R&B and African rhythms and textures, as “Afro-Soul.”
Our featured track is a bright and warm hip-shaker that may propel you to dance immediately, so be forewarned. It is a strong, early choice for song of the summer, and we urge you to have a listen!
Enjoy.
