(October 26, 2022) Nathan Johnston & The Angels Of Libra are new to us, but we’re quite happy we found them. The 10-piece soul outfit from Hamburg has a keen sense of classic soul sounds, all beginning with their affinity for analog recording techniques.
The group began in Denmark recording session with guitarist Dennis Rux, keyboard player Chris Haertel, bassist David Nesselhauf and drummer Lucas Kochbeck. Ultimately they recruited Johnston as lead singer and renamed their act after a song they’d been working on, “Angels of Libra.”
On November 4, the band will issue its debut album, but we have a sneak peek in the song and video for “Curtis,”a song inspired by the soul music of the 1960s. The song has a message that is very close to the band. Nathan tells us, “‘Curtis’ has a lot to do with self-doubt, feeling alienated and trying to find a way to accept that there are always different paths ahead of us, and knowing that it will always be tough to decide which is the right one – sometimes we need guidance.“
Check out the World Premiere of “Curtis,” and welcome Nathan Johnston & The Angels Of Libra to SoulTracks.
