Smokey signs with Verve, to release Duets album

Legendary Motown hitmaker Smokey Robinson has signed with Verve Records and is working on an album of duets, covering with famous friends some of his biggest compositions and reportedly working with producer David Foster (Josh Groban, Celine Dion). Smokey was quoted: “I’m really excited about signing with Verve Music Group to release this upcoming album. Not only do I have a musical history with the guys involved, but a longstanding friendship as well. I’m looking forward to bringing our talents to the table as we collaborate on this project.”

While we’re pretty tired of both covers albums and duet albums (see Tony Bennett, Lionel Richie and most recently Paul Anka), we love the Smoke so much we’ll give him a pass on this one and will look forward to hearing the new album. In the meantime, check out one of our favorite past Smokey duets, this time with India Arie.
