At Indiana University, brothers Kevon and Melvin Edmonds teamed with college mate Keith Mitchell to form After 7 and played local gigs in the Bloomington area. A little more than 20 years after Motown act, The Originals, released “Baby, I’m for Real” which was written by their label mate Marvin Gaye, the gentlemen of After 7 put their stamp on the classic tune by adding more of a jazz flair to the track and incorporating a splash of Bloodstone’s “Natural High.” And as in the original record, each member traded lead vocals during the song, bringing the nostalgic vibe of street corner harmonies to the fore.
